切薩皮克灣海戰（Battle of the Chesapeake），又稱維吉尼亞角戰役（Battle of the Virginia Capes）或簡稱海角戰役（Battle of the Capes），它是美國獨立戰爭期間的一場海軍戰役。

簡介

海戰發生在1781年9月5日，德·葛拉瑟伯爵指揮的法國艦隊在切薩皮克灣附近對抗由湯瑪斯·葛瑞夫斯率領的英國艦隊。海戰開始時，法拉葉侯爵請求刺客康納率領天鷹號支援法軍。德·葛拉瑟伯爵原以為會有一支大型艦隊和一位身經百戰的船長加入他們，但沒想到來的卻只有一艘船和一個毫不起眼的年輕人。

德·葛拉瑟伯爵又驚又氣，他命令馬塞洛斯號和聖埃斯普利特號去做天鷹號的護衛艦。在戰鬥中，三艘英軍炮艦和至少四艘英軍護衛艦被擊沉，馬塞洛斯號也在中途被英軍擊中沉沒。

隨後，巴夫勒爾號加入了針對聖埃斯普利特號的戰鬥，並打爆了天鷹號的螺旋炮。康納決定孤注一擲，他下令撞擊巴夫勒爾號，強行登船。在登船後的白刃戰中，康納殺死了巴夫勒爾號的船長。整場戰役以法軍的勝利告終。

切薩皮克灣海戰被認為是美國獨立戰爭中最具決定性的戰役，它不僅打破了英軍對殖民地的海域封鎖，也擊敗了來援助英軍將領查爾斯·康沃利斯的軍隊，導致了英軍在約克鎮圍城戰中的失敗。英軍在約克鎮戰役中的失敗也導致了兩年後《巴黎和約》的簽訂。

事件過程

針對1781年7月在紐約或維吉尼亞攻擊英國軍隊的選項，海軍上將葛拉瑟選擇了後者，八月底葛拉瑟的艦隊抵達切薩皮克。法國海軍上將德·巴拉斯在得知葛拉瑟已經從西印度群島航行到北美後，也從紐波特羅德島基地出航。

葛瑞夫斯推測兩支法國艦隊將於切薩皮克灣會合。他帶領19艘船從紐約往南航行，9月5日葛瑞夫斯在切薩皮克灣遇見葛拉瑟停泊的艦隊，葛拉瑟急忙指揮24艘船艦迎戰。經過兩小時的接合和移動，兩個艦隊並沒有完全排成戰列，只有前面和中心部分跟直線完全接合，雖然在戰術上雙方均未能獲得決定性勝利，但對英軍來講這是他們戰略上的重挫。

因為英軍無法支援或撤離約克鎮中由查爾斯·康沃利斯將軍所指揮的英軍。當法國海軍能夠暫時控制海面，由美軍及法國步兵連同火砲、攻城器抵達約克鎮支援，對約克鎮圍城戰役有著決定性影響。
