Rebecca Louisa Ferguson Sundström was born on October 19, 1983, in Stockholm, Sweden . She was raised in a bilingual household—her mother, Rosemary Ferguson, is British (of English, Scottish, and Northern Irish descent), and her father, Olov Sundström, is a Swedish businessman. Ferguson attended an English-language school in Stockholm and later graduated from Adolf Fredrik's Music School in 1999 .
Career
Ferguson began her acting career at age 15, appearing in 54 episodes of the Swedish television drama Nya tider ("New Times," 1999–2000). She later starred in the Swedish-American soap opera Ocean Ave. (2002–03) and made her film debut in the Swedish horror film Drowning Ghost (2004) .
Her international breakthrough came in 2013 when she portrayed Elizabeth Woodville in the BBC miniseries The White Queen, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film . Hollywood recognition followed with Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation (2015), in which she starred opposite Tom Cruise as Ilsa Faust.
