Orion Lee (born July 10, 1980) is a Hong Kong-born Chinese Australian actor and producer. He is known for his lead role as King-Lu in the acclaimed drama First Cow (2019) and for voicing Jin Lee in the Pixar animated film Turning Red (2022). He has also appeared in major Hollywood productions such as Skyfall, Fury, Justice League, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Orion Lee was born on July 10, 1980, in Hong Kong . He grew up in Malaysia . Before pursuing a career in acting, Lee worked in the finance industry as a fund manager . He subsequently retrained as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), where he appeared in multiple stage productions, including The Prisoner’s Dilemma, Twelfth Night, The Cherry Orchard, and Our Boys .

Lee has established himself as an accomplished theatre actor, performing at prestigious venues across the United Kingdom and the United States. His UK stage credits include The Wheel (which won Fringe First and Amnesty International Awards) at the National Theatre of Scotland, Enron (winner of TMA Best New Play Award) with Headlong, and The Peddler’s Tale . He has also performed at the Abbey Theatre (the National Theatre of Ireland), the Royal Court, the American Repertory Theater, and the West End .
One of his most notable stage achievements was being directed by Trevor Nunn as Mosca, a co-lead role in Ben Jonson’s Volpone, at the Royal Shakespeare Company .
Film Career
Lee made his feature film debut in 2012 with a small role as the Shanghai Barman in the James Bond film Skyfall . He subsequently appeared in Fury (2014) as Tired GI #1 and A Brilliant Young Mind (2014) as Deng Laoshi .
In 2017, he appeared in three major Hollywood releases: Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League as a Star Labs Scientist, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi as Canady’s First Order Monitor (character name: Suday Bascus) . Reflecting on his Star Wars experience, Lee has shared: 「Like so many children, I』d play Star Wars as a child. My friends and I would pretend that we were piloting spaceships and using the Force to overcome overwhelming obstacles and take part in epic battles. That little boy would never have dreamed he』d be actually find himself on set aboard a spaceship and fully immersed in the visuals and drama of Star Wars.」
Lee achieved critical acclaim in 2019 for his lead role as King-Lu in Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow, a drama about a cook and a Chinese immigrant who form a friendship in 19th-century Oregon . His performance earned him a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Gotham Independent Film Award nomination for Breakthrough Actor . He also won the Gold List Award for Best Supporting Actor for this role .
In 2022, Lee voiced Jin Lee, the father of the protagonist Mei, in the Pixar animated film Turning Red . The film received widespread critical acclaim for its heartfelt storytelling and representation.
