Embeth Jean Davidtz (born August 11, 1965) is an American-South African actress known for her versatile roles in film and television. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, to South African parents, she moved to Johannesburg at age six. Davidtz attended the University of the Witwatersrand, where she studied drama before beginning her acting career in South African theater.
Career
Davidtz gained international recognition for her breakout role as Miss Honey in Matilda (1996), directed by Danny DeVito. She further showcased her range with performances in:
Schindler’s List (1993): Played Helen Hirsch, a Jewish maid, in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning Holocaust drama.
Army of Darkness (1992): As Sheila, a medieval love interest in Sam Raimi’s cult horror-comedy.
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012): Portrayed May Parker, Aunt May, in Marc Webb’s reboot.
