Elizabeth Marvel (born November 27, 1969) is an American actress. She is known for her roles as Solicitor General Heather Dunbar on House of Cards, President Elizabeth Keane on Homeland, and Detective Nancy Parras on The District . Her film credits include Burn After Reading, True Grit, Lincoln, and The Meyerowitz Stories .
Early Life and Education
Marvel was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Mohnton, Pennsylvania . She studied at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City .[1]
Career
Marvel began her acting career on the New York stage. She made her Broadway debut in 1992 as an understudy in a revival of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, later performing in critically acclaimed plays including Ronald Harwood's Taking Sides and Wendy Wasserstein's An American Daughter .
Her first television role was a guest appearance on Homicide: Life on the Street in 1998 . She then landed a full-time television part as Detective Nancy Parras on the procedural drama The District, which ran for four seasons .
Marvel has appeared in numerous films, including multiple collaborations with the Coen brothers (Burn After Reading and True Grit) as well as roles in Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, and Noah Baumbach's The Meyerowitz Stories .
On television, she has had prominent recurring roles in House of Cards (as Heather Dunbar) and Homeland (as President Elizabeth Keane) . More recently, she appeared in the Hulu series The Dropout (2022), Love & Death and Mrs. Davis (both 2023), as well as the film The Color Purple (2023) and the series Presumed Innocent (2024) .
Personal Life
Marvel married actor Bill Camp in 2004. The couple has a son named Silas .
