华克的作品影响最深远的便是代表作《ColourPurple紫色姐妹花》，书中揭露了种族、性别、阶级对一位黑人女性的多重压迫，描述了一名黑人女性从听命到反抗、从麻木到觉醒，最终实现了自由解放与个性尊严的艰苦历程。小说发表后，因内容对暴力、压迫直白的描写，受到极大的非议与责难，但却无损于作品的内蕴与光辉。

爱丽丝‧华克Alice Walker与童妮‧摩里森Toni Morrison被并列为当代美国两大黑人女性主义文学家。

个人生活

1965年，沃克与犹太民权律师Melvyn Rosenman Leventhal相遇。他们1967年3月17日在纽约市结婚。那年晚些时候夫妇搬迁到密西西比州杰克逊，成为“密西西比第一对合法结婚的跨种族夫妇”。^[8]^[9]他们受到白人的骚扰和威胁，包括三K党。他们夫妇1969年生了一个女儿Rebecca。沃克和她的丈夫于1976年离婚。^[10]

90年代中期，沃克与女创作歌手特蕾西·查普曼开始了一段恋情。^[11]^[12]
