2005年11月03日下午在澳门进行的东亚运动会男子跳远比赛中，湖南省选手周灿虽然在最后一跳中跳出7米52的成绩，可因为韩国与日本选手在最后一跳中都跳出7米7以上的成绩，最终周灿排在第四名未能站在领奖台上。不过冠军还是被来自福建的小将宋健以7米77的成绩夺得。没有获得奖牌，周灿赛后还是一脸轻松。“今天就是步子太慢了，力量上也差了一些。”<ref>[http://sports.sina.com.cn/s/2005-11-04/0843698714s.shtml 东亚运男子跳远比赛结束 湖南周灿遗憾未能夺牌],新浪网，2005年11月04日</ref>
