<p style="text-indent:2em;">塞尔在1954年获得菲尔兹奖，当时年仅28岁，他是至今最年轻的获奖者。随后他获颁Balzan奖（1985年）、斯蒂尔奖（1995年）以及沃尔夫数学奖（2000年），他也是阿贝尔奖的首个得主（2003年）。菲尔兹奖和阿贝尔奖普遍被认为是数学家的最高荣誉，塞尔是迄今唯一一位双料得主。</p >
