<p style="text-indent:2em;">1987年，戴森霍费尔博士接受[[美国]][[德克萨斯大学]]达拉斯分校和休斯敦医学研究所聘请筹建X射线结晶学研究中心，负责生物化学研究。1988年，与罗伯特·胡贝尔(Robert Huber)、哈特姆特·米歇尔(Hortmut Michel)成功地解析了细菌光合作用反应中心的立体结构，阐明了其光合作用的进行机制，三人共同荣获诺贝尔化学奖。2012年4月27日，戴森霍费尔教授被聘为[[西安石油大学]]应用化学学科客座教授。</p>
