曾為美國前職業[[籃球]]球員，曾效力於[[波士頓塞爾提克隊]]與[[聖路易轟炸機|聖路易轟炸機隊]]。球員退役後曾短暫服役於[[美國海軍]]，退伍後就讀於[[哈佛大學]]法學院，並順利取得律師執照。他在短暫執業後取得[[羅德獎學金]]，因此又赴英國[[牛津大學]]深造，取得[[文學士]]學位。
