1886年底，[[戴德生]]在完成中国内地万里行之后，深觉内地会面临巨大的需要，于是他召集内地会在各省的监督在[[安庆]]开会。经过三期的禁食祷告后，他们发起为在1887年内地会要有一百位新同工的祷告。当时内地会一共只有190名成员，分布在50个宣教站，在一年之内增派超过自身一半多的[[宣教士]]这个大胆的梦想，超过了任何一个宣教机构的想象。

1887年，有六百名[[英国]]男女志愿参与内地会的工作。内地会从中拣选了一百零二人，经过训练就差派他们前往中国。

== 影响 ==
“一百名同工”的故事引起很大轰动，挑起更多人对中国以至内地会工作的兴趣。当时，慕迪在美国发起学生海外的宣教工作，有超过二千名学生愿意献身。1888年，慕迪请戴德生在返回中国途中，往美国在一个大型学生会议讲道。不久，戴德生在美国成立了内地会的分会，三个月后，他就能够带着十四位年轻的北美宣教土往中国传教。从此，中国内地会就从一个英国机构成为一个跨国的机构。
