美国国务院每年发表《国别人权报告》<ref>[http://news.eastday.com/eastday/13news/auto/news/csj/u7ai4187305_K4.html 柳华文：美国单方面发表国别人权报告的作法当止]，东方网， 2015-6-26 </ref>（United States' Country Reports on Human Rights Practices）。现有一位兼任总统[[西藏]]事务特别代表（President's Special Representative for Tibetan Issues）的平民安全暨民主人权次卿（Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights），其下设有民主人权暨劳工助卿（Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor）与主管难民等事务之其他职务。[[美国国会]]参、众两院外交委员会也设有人权与民主事务的小组委员会。
