戈麥斯最早在[[波爾圖足球俱樂部|波爾圖]]進行青訓，2011年加入[[本菲卡足球俱樂部|本菲卡]]，一年之後升入一線隊，在[[本菲卡足球俱樂部|本菲卡]]，戈麥斯表現穩定提升，被[[西班牙足球甲級聯賽|西甲]]球會[[瓦倫西亞足球俱樂部|瓦倫西亞]]所看中，在租借了一個賽季之後，[[瓦倫西亞足球俱樂部|瓦倫西亞]]將他買斷，後來憑藉優秀表現成為瓦倫西亞中場核心。
2016年，[[巴塞隆納足球俱樂部|巴塞隆納]]以3500萬歐元外加2000萬歐元浮動條款的價格簽入戈麥斯。戈麥斯加入巴薩後的表現只能以「災難」來形容，完全無法適應巴薩的傳控打法，攻守上不知如何應對進退，外加速度極慢常成為被針對的對象，成為拖垮巴薩中場的老鼠屎；多次表現不佳也使戈麥斯對自己失去信心，精神狀態與場上表現雪崩式下滑，最終板凳坐穿爛到完全失去上場機會。
2018年外租到艾佛頓，英超重視肉體戰的球風讓戈梅茲重獲新生，迅速成為球隊中場絕對核心。
